A nice reminder of how great Vancouver can be
We paid very little to just saunter into the early show,
then just snagged a spot near the front. To M83.

Maggie and Aleks' annual Circle Craft excursion
But first! More vacuum demonstrations from the godson!
While Sebastian was a fun (albeit tiring) addition to our group, this was the highlight of this year's Circle Craft for me. I was confused, then weirded out, then impressed by Chiengora, an outfit that makes woolen gifts from your pet's fur.

This guy is brilliant. Plays the most amazing Stooges covers.
(The trenchcoat lady started grooving shortly after this picture was taken.)
Apparently he moved here from Edmonton while I was away and is already a legend. |

My Life in Hipstamatic
So I recently fell in LOVE with the Hipstamatic app. Basically a retro camera crapshoot that adds a sense of whimsy and romanticism to the everyday.
So I thought I'd try something a little different. Since I never take the time anymore to actually write on this blog, today marks the first day of a photo journal of my life in Vancouver, one hipstamatic photo at a time.
WARNING: I anticipate there will be a lot of photos of small children with this project, since I have so many awesome potential subjects.
So come back every so often while I offer a stylized glimpse into my life back here.

"So when's your last day in South Africa?"
Dear Home Affairs,
Your lack of clarity is stressing me out to the point of insomnia.
Basically, you suck.
Sincerely,
Aleksandra.
Live from Umzumbe - it's Hostmother!
Rocked down to good ol' Mantis and Moon for new friend Kruschen's birthday bash (
Kru puts me to shame, he booked up an entire backpackers lodge for his party pals).
I knew we'd be in for a crazy night of drinking and jamming, but I didn't expect to arrive to joyous cries of "the entertainment's arrived!". Seems that Kru hyped the three of us pretty hard. But bless him for it - Hostmother's 3-set live debut to a packed and appreciative bar was pretty perfect.

OUR FIRST OFFICIAL INTERN BRUNCH!
(me, O, B, and ADB) |
My replacement arrived on Monday. I met her at midnight in the bar at the Hilton. I don't know why I see that as a good omen, but I definitely do.
B's delightful, which makes me happy. Otherwise I might be a bit jealous - it's only been 4 days and she's already found a home, made some friends, been out three times - and I can't even say those are all thanks to me! (But mostly, they are.)
B's arrival also signals the dying days here. :( And suddenly everyone's running up to the plate to do the things they've only been talking about. This is going to be a busy month, I can feel it.
how I greet your co-worker
So the guys in the GIS department call me "Sherbatsky".
I know it's just because I am from Vancouver and my name also ends with "ski", but it always makes my day to be likened to Cobie Smulders' Hot Robin.
Just another weekend jaunt...
... to a natural wonder of the world!
There were some travel deals in the New Year, so Eugene and I took advantage of a cheap flight to Livingstone, Zambia for more passport stamps, a visit to Victoria Falls, and a crazy day on the best rafting river in the world.
More pics after the jump!
